Coinciding with action research activities

  1. This sounds like it will yield very interesting and potentially powerful results. I would encourage you to keep open communication with your counselor to look at any recent changes in a students social and emotional behaviors and not just their academic behavior. You might have meant that when you said you will meet with school counselor, however I wasn't sure. Best of luck to you! I look forward to following your research.

  2. My favorite part of your research plan is how collaborative it is with the staff on your campus. You're going to gain invaluable experience working in unison with co-workers and it's awesome that you're the one spear-heading all of the action. I can't wait to watch the progress. Good luck!

  3. This particular action research is interesting to me because I work at an alternative center and sometimes we have to find a way to reduce the classroom disruptions because it limits our classroom instruction. We must find a way to keep students on task at all times. I am looking forward to watching this plan unfold. Thanks also for helping me with setting up my blog. I finally got it going.

  4. It sounds like you have everything in place. Approximately, how many students will you mentor in your action plan? Will you be the only mentor? It sounds really thought out and after your findings, it sounds like you will make a presentation to the rest of your staff and let them know this is what it takes sometimes to make our students know that we care. Good luck in the future!

    1. Jesse, thanks for commenting on the post. I will be looking to revise my plan for clarification on the number of mentors. At present, I plan on being the only mentor.

  5. I believe that your project idea is great! What is an alternative center? Is it similar to alternative school or Bridge, as we call it, where students are assigned due to disciplinary infractions? What grade levels will you work with? A suggestion for the next step of your plan could be to invite some community members to volunteer to mentor some of the students in addition to Deirdre. Good luck to you! I will be interested to hear how it is progressing.

    1. I am a teacher at an elementary school that houses the special education program Adaptive Behavior. Adaptive Behavior is the most restrictive environment, in our district, for an elementary setting. It is a permanent placement as opposed to temporary - like an ALC placement. Thanks for your questions and input.
